The NOMOS enterprise

Glashütte lies in the eastern region of the Erzgebirge ("Ore Mountains") not far from the border with the Czech Republic. It is a town in which (almost) everything revolves around watches. It is said that the people in Glashütte have hearts that go 'tick-tock,' because they have been perfecting the art of fine watchmaking for generations. Here it is not uncommon for children already at the age of six to disassemble and analyze their parents' alarm clocks.

NOMOS is one of only a few watchmakers worldwide with the designation of manufactory.

Provincial backwater and the world

This relatively tiny town in the eastern Ore Mountains makes timepieces that capture the fancy of people from all over the world, Manhattan, Tokyo, Berlin, and elsewhere. Watchmaking in Glashütte has a long history and now, 24 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall the watches made in this town are the best they have ever been. What is it that makes Glashütte so unique?

The NOMOS environs

Within the walls of the “Chronometrie” on the Erbenhang bluff and in the old Glashütte train station (located opposite fellow watchmakers Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original) a good 145 workers are employed crafting the finest “Made in Germany” timepieces. This is where Tangente, Orion, Ludwig and the other models in the NOMOS collection come into being.

Glashütte—20 years and counting

Production began with three employees and a shared telephone line. Today, you can find pictures, sculptures, and video installations by young comtemporary artists at the manufactory; and you can find people doing research, designing, constructing developing watches with great enthusiasm. Over the years, we developed our own automatic caliber, but also different complications.
